About Me
Dr. Mwangi Joseph Matheri is a dedicated lecturer at the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences, School of Medicine, College of Health Sciences, Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture & Technology (JKUAT) in Nairobi, Kenya. He holds an impressive academic background, including a PhD in Physiotherapy from the University of the Western Cape, South Africa.
Research Interests: Mwangi's primary research interests revolve around physical activity, support services for persons with disabilities, and disability policy. He is passionate about applying the Capability Approach, engaging in social science research, and fostering collaborations to make a meaningful impact in these fields.
Notable Achievements: Mwangi has demonstrated exceptional leadership skills and expertise in various projects. He played a key role in the development of a prototype wheelchair through collaboration with Motivation Charitable Trust (UK) and JKUAT. Additionally, his efforts in managing the Covid-19 pandemic in Kenya, including the development of protocols and contact tracing, have been commendable.
Education and Training:
Dr. JM Mwangi's pursuit of knowledge led him to obtain a Master of Science and Bachelor of Science Honours in Physiotherapy from the University of the Western Cape, South Africa. He also holds a Higher Diploma in Medical Education and a Medical Education Certificate from KMTC Nairobi. Mwangi's dedication to education is further evident in his successful implementation of the Bachelor of Medical Social Work training curriculum.
Engagement and Contributions: Mwangi has actively engaged with national and international bodies, building partnerships and linkages to advance rehabilitation and assistive technology initiatives. He was instrumental in developing the Ministry of Health Rehabilitative Services and Assistive Technology Strategy 2022-2026, demonstrating his commitment to driving positive change.
